Four JMPD officers swerved into a steel barrier on the M1 South in Houghton

Four JMPD officers sustained slight injuries on after swerving into a steel bend trying to avoid a pedestrian on the M1 South in Houghton.

A marked JMPD patrol vehicle swerved to evade a pedestrian who was walking along the M1 South on the Houghton freeway on July 1.

There were four officers in the vehicle.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said, “The vehicle crashed into the steel barrier and a pole and landed on the grass embankment. The four officers who were in the vehicle sustained slight injuries.”

He added an internal case was registered by the JMPD Internal Affairs Unit to determine if the accident was preventable or non-preventable.
