The DP World Wanderers Cricket Stadium hosted the Joburg Sixes sports and cultural festival

The Sixies sports and cultural festival began in Cape Town.

The DP World Wanderers Cricket Stadium hosted the Joburg Sixes sports and cultural festival on September 29 and 30.

The CEO of the Joburg Sixes, Sean Young said the festival began eight years ago in Cape Town.

“There are three pillars to the festival which are a variety of sports which include padel, golf and culture,” said Young.

“We want to give as many upcoming artists a chance to get known and the community pillar where we have development teams from Soweto and Alexandra. We would like to grow the township teams in the coming years and have cooperatives on board to develop more women teams and get Joburg Sixes to the scale that it is in Cape Town.”

Young added the Cape Town festival was made up of 750 participants and even though the Joburg number was still growing, the Sixes have teams in the UK who will join the Joburg festival in the coming year.
