Rockie BRM 5km and 10km delights local runners
The Rosebank Killarney Gazette partnered with the inaugural Rockies BRM 5km and 10km race which saw runners fill the streets of Saxonwold.
Despite the gloomy early-morning weather, locals took to the start line for the first-ever Rockies BRM 5km and 10km race on October 15.
In association with the Zoo Lake Users Committee and the Whittaker family, along with the Rosebank Killarney Gazette, runners of all ages were welcomed to the starting line.
This inaugural race was quite well attended and the spirits were high. Volunteers, committee members and sponsors gathered to help make the race a success.
Race organiser Matodzi Tshidzumba said, “I am happy when runners are happy. We organised this race to be enjoyed by our residents to bring children and prams to run and walk while being outside. We live in a truly lovely area and it’s always nice to bring residents out in an event like this to enjoy summer outside.”
The Parkview, Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents Associations helped support the event by ensuring the residents were not inconvenienced. Ward councillors Tim Truluck and Bridget Steer gave their blessing while runners felt safe under the watchful eyes of JMPD and Parkview police.
Tshidzumba thanked the other sponsors, BRM, Gioia Trattoria restaurant, the Sweatshop Dunkeld, Mercedes Benz Sandton, Finish Time and race announcer Pete van der Merwe as well as his club Rocky Road Runners based in Zoo Lake.
