Celebrate 100 years of service with the Children’s Memorial Institute’s Market Day

The Children's Memorial Institute's 100th-anniversary market day in Parktown promises to be a day of fun, learning and entertainment for the whole family.

The Children’s Memorial Institute announced its very first market day to celebrate a remarkable 100 years of unwavering dedication to children.

The event will be held on November 4. Managing director at Lekifa La Phodiso, Rozanne Myburgh said in the spirit of this monumental celebration, the Children’s Memorial Institute (CMI) invited an exciting line-up of vendors to join in the festivities. The market will feature an array of stalls with something for all ages.

Some of the vendors participating in the celebration include organisations from the CMI building, including Thusanani Children’s Foundation, ACFS Community Education, Childline Gauteng, The Teddy Bear Foundation South Africa, Autism South Africa, Lefika La Phodiso, Johannesburg Parent and Child Counselling Centre, Malamulele Onward and Philile Foundation. External vendors include The Perfect Cup Parkview, Sisu Gift Company, House of May Kimonos, Bubbletea Linden and The Daydreaming Donut.

Live entertainment by The Windybrow Arts Centre’s choir and DJ Steve Black will keep the atmosphere electric throughout the day.

“We especially want to make this market fun for families by providing exciting activities for children, such as tie-dye with Lefika La Phodiso, clay play with Melville Mudroom and a jumping castle. The day promises to be a vibrant and memorable event, and a perfect outing for families,” said Myburgh.

As part of the festivities, CMI invites you to satisfy your curiosity about the historical significance of the CMI building with a guided historical tour. “Who knows, you might even spot Daisy de Melker! If you’re unfamiliar with this name, join us on November 4th to uncover this exciting piece of history.”

Intriguingly, CMI introduces a sensory space created by Dr Dee Blackie of Courage Child Protection and Empowerment, providing an interactive sensory experience for visitors. Visitors can be among the first to explore The Sensory Space before its official opening.
