Hyde Park and Craighall sees 5 000 Virgin Active 94.7 Ride Joburg Road cyclers

The cycling event, which is an annual event and open to cyclists of all levels, from beginners to experienced, featured several race categories, including a 40km fun ride, the 94.7km race, and a 1km kiddies ride for the youthful riders.

The Virgin Active 94.7 Ride Joburg Road 2024 saw 5 000 cyclers brave the heat on November 17 to peddle across the city.

The cycle race is an annual event held in Johannesburg. Open to cyclists of all levels, from beginners to experienced riders, it offered a unique opportunity to explore the city’s vibrant streets and scenic suburbs on two wheels.

Cyclists Janelle Botha and Prinesh Reddy said although they took months to prepare for the big day, and enjoyed it, it was challenging.

The 94.7 Ride Joburg Road took place on a closed-off route, which started at Riversands Commercial Park in Fourways and wound through some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Nelson Mandela Bridge and the historic mining district of Johannesburg.

Cyclists also had the opportunity to experience the city’s diverse communities, including Craighall and Hyde Park, as they cycled through leafy suburbs and picturesque parklands.

The event featured several race categories, including a 40km fun ride, the 94.7km race, and a 1km kiddies ride, making it a family-friendly event that catered to riders of all ages and abilities.

Participants enjoyed a festive atmosphere at the finish line, with live music, food stalls, and a beer garden.

The Virgin Active 94.7 Ride Joburg Road 2024 was not only a fun and exciting cycling event but also served as a fundraiser for various charities and community organizations. Over the years, the event has raised millions of rands for causes ranging from education and healthcare to environmental conservation and social welfare.
