Water disruptions hit northern suburbs as Parktown and Dunkeld reservoirs run low
Johannesburg Water is working to identify the cause of low water levels affecting major reservoirs, leaving several northern Johannesburg suburbs with little to no water.
A widespread water disruption is currently affecting multiple northern Johannesburg suburbs as the Parktown and Dunkeld reservoirs report critically low levels.
Johannesburg Water confirmed on Tuesday that teams are on site investigating the cause of the sudden drop in supply.
The affected reservoirs serve a large portion of the city’s northern and central areas. As a result, residents in over 20 suburbs are experiencing low water pressure or no supply at all.
The affected areas include:
- Westcliff
- Parkwood
- Forest Town
- Birdhaven
- Saxonwold
- Dunkeld West
- Hyde Park
- Melrose
- Illovo
- Parktown North
- Melrose North
- Riviera
- Killarney
- Parkview
- Oaklands
- Greenside
- Houghton Estate
- Abbotsford
- Dunkeld
- Craighall Park
- Parkhurst
- Parts of Rosebank.
Johannesburg Water stated that there is currently no estimated time of restoration.
Residents are urged to use water sparingly and report any leaks or unusual activity that might assist Johannesburg Water in identifying the source of the problem.
