Local teen has been selected for SA Hockey Tour to the Netherlands
Her hockey journey began in Grade 3, and now she's preparing for an opportunity of a lifetime.
Buhlebenkosi Ncube (17) is preparing for the biggest opportunity of her young hockey career. The Harrismith High Grade 11 learner has been selected to join the MS Invitational Hockey Team for an international tour to the Netherlands this October.
Her journey began in Grade 3 at Duiwelskloof Primary School, armed with only a borrowed kit and raw enthusiasm. “I was eight years old and had no idea how to play, but that first match lit a fire in me.”

Today, she plays midfield, where she enjoys being involved in both attack and defence. Her proudest moment, so far, has been leading her team to an unexpected tournament victory in Margate last year. “We were the underdogs. No one expected us to win.”
Buhlebenkosi was stunned to hear of her selection. “I never thought I’d make it this far.”
She balances academics with training, and dreams of one day representing South Africa’s senior team.
Her journey is one of courage and quiet determination. “I hope I inspire other girls to try something new, even if it scares them.”
