The Johannesburg Roads Agency head of regional operations, Khaya Gqibitole, confirmed to the Gazette on August 7 that design plans for long-term remedial repairs were underway.

“However, in the interim, our regional teams have implemented temporary measures such as continuous cleaning of the stormwater systems, relocation of underground services such as fibre cables, and relocation of the traffic signals to allow for interim repairs.”

Gqibitole concluded that the affected area was barricaded to ensure the safety of road users.
