Rotary salutes Tutty Faber’s 50 years of ‘Service Above Self’

Members of the Rosebank Rotary Club gathered at the Wanderers Club to honour Tutty Faber, whose half-century of service has inspired generations of Rotarians and friends alike.

The Chariots Restaurant at the Wanderers Club was filled with laughter, clinking glasses, and heartfelt applause as Rotarians came together on October 31 to celebrate one of their own. Tutty Faber, a dedicated member of Rotary for 50 years, was honoured for a lifetime of commitment to community and fellowship.

Guests enjoyed champagne and elegant à la carte meals while listening to Faber reflect on his remarkable journey. When asked how it felt to look back on five decades of service, he replied with characteristic humility, “Much satisfaction for the service that I was able to deliver.”

Faber joined Rotary, inspired by its reputation for integrity and global goodwill. Over the years, he has witnessed many changes but believes the heart of Rotary remains constant. “The practices have continuously made it easier to be a Rotarian,” he observed.

He fondly recalled The Wilds Tea Kiosk, a project near his original Orange Grove Club, which became a cherished symbol of community spirit.

Beyond Rotary, Faber’s service extended to King Edward VII School, his alma mater, where he later served as a governor. “The staff were always dedicated to service,” he said, reflecting on the values that shaped his outlook.

When asked what continues to bring him joy, his answer was simple and sincere: “Service opportunities.”

As the luncheon drew to a close, the room rose in applause. Tutty Faber had reminded everyone what true service means – quiet dedication, friendship, and the belief that giving of oneself is its own reward.
