Christmas carols light up Craighall Park as Rosies’ voices share the spirit of giving
St Teresa’s learners led a touching Christmas Carols evening that brought joy to families near and far.
Families from St Teresa’s Junior Primary School filled St Martin de Porres Church with warmth, music and generosity on November 25, as the school community gathered for its annual Christmas Carols evening.
What unfolded was far more than a seasonal concert; it was a heartfelt celebration of togetherness.

Parents, learners and teachers arrived carrying gifts and toys, each one intended for a child who might otherwise go without this festive season. The Sisters of Mercy will distribute the donations to children in Orange Farm and the Winterveldt.

For many families, it was a moment to pause and embrace the true meaning of Christmas: sharing what they have so others may feel included, remembered and loved.
The evening’s programme featured confident Grade 3 readers who delivered Bible passages that set the tone for the night. Their readings were met with thoughtful silence, which was soon interrupted by the first notes of each carol that followed.
Before long, the church was filled with singing from the choirs, the Rosies, and families who joined in with the ease of long-practised tradition.

Music filled every corner of the church as girls played guitars, drums and xylophones, proudly demonstrating what they had learnt throughout the year. For many parents, watching the children’s musical growth was as moving as the carols themselves.

Principal Lynne Elfick said the evening captured the heart of the school. “Our Christmas Carols evening was a touching reminder of the strength of our community and the importance of giving.
May the spirit of Christmas continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all our Rosies and their families,” she said.
As families filtered out into the warm summer night, the last notes of the carols still lingered, a gentle reminder that kindness, when shared, echoes long after the music fades.
