Park Hyatt in Melrose celebrates MICHELIN Key honour with festive dining at Room 32

The luxury hotel marks its One MICHELIN Key recognition by unveiling a series of seasonal dining experiences designed to bring people together this festive season.

Park Hyatt in Melrose has added another milestone to its name after being recognised with One MICHELIN Key, placing it among the first hotels in Africa to receive the prestigious accolade.

As the festive season approaches, the hotel is marking the moment not only with quiet pride, but around the table, unveiling a range of seasonal dining experiences at its signature restaurant, Room 32.

The MICHELIN Key programme, introduced by the MICHELIN Guide in October 2025, celebrates hotels that stand out for exceptional quality, distinctive design and elevated service.

For Park Hyatt in Melrose, housed in a carefully restored 1930s residence with just 31 rooms, the recognition affirms its reputation for understated luxury and attention to detail.

At the heart of the celebration is Room 32, where head chef Karel Jacobs has curated a festive dining programme that balances refinement with warmth and conviviality. From New Year menus created to mark special moments, to the relaxed Saturday Rendezvous Brunch, the focus is on seasonal produce, thoughtful technique and shared experiences.

Guests can also enjoy High Tea with delicate pastries and savoury bites, as well as family sharing menus designed to encourage lingering conversations and togetherness. Open fire cooking, a carefully curated South African wine list and an intimate setting complete the experience.

“Our seasonal offerings are designed to bring people together around the table,” said Jacobs. “Each experience reflects our commitment to flavour, craft and creating meaningful moments through food.”

General manager Mitch Gemmell said the MICHELIN Key recognition reflects a broader philosophy at the hotel.

“Being recognised with a MICHELIN Key reflects our commitment to excellence across every aspect of the guest journey. Room 32’s seasonal dining experiences complement this ethos, offering guests thoughtful and elevated ways to celebrate the festive season.”

As Johannesburg winds down for the holidays, Park Hyatt in Melrose offers a fitting way to celebrate the season, with good food, shared moments and a quiet confidence that comes with international recognition.
