Promise of a bright future shown at Norwood Young Stars awards night
A night of pride and possibility unfolded in Norwood as young footballers were rewarded for discipline, dedication, and dreams in the making.
Norwood Young Stars hosted a lively awards ceremony at Paterson Park, shining a light on the values that sit at the heart of the academy: Discipline, development, and belief in young talent.
With parents filling the venue, on January 16, and former players looking on proudly, the evening celebrated a season of commitment from the club’s junior ranks.
The ceremony was made possible through the support of the 2016 championship-winning players, alongside SAPS, Lifeline, and Spar, whose contributions helped turn the night into a memorable occasion for the youngsters.
The spotlight fell firmly on U17 forward Tsebo Mphahlele, who enjoyed a remarkable evening after collecting four major awards, including Player of the Season.

His goal-scoring instinct, creativity, and consistency were rewarded, not only with trophies, but with a promotion to the senior team – a moment that drew a warm standing ovation from the crowd.
Chairperson Venita Masisi said the academy’s focus goes beyond results on the scoreboard.
“We use football as a tool to shape character and give our children direction. When they are recognised for hard work and discipline, it reinforces that positive choices lead to real opportunities.”
More than just an awards night, the event served as a reminder of the academy’s role within the community. By honouring effort and commitment, Norwood Young Stars continues to create a safe, structured environment, where young players can dream big, grow confidently, and stay on a path towards a brighter future.
