March and March protestors blockaded the Builders Express entrance at Norwood Mall, vowing to return if their memorandum is not responded to.

Norwood Mall’s Builders Express entrance came to a stand-still on July 11, after March and March protestors barricaded the entrance demanding their pleas about hiring South Africans to be heard.

Amongst a heavy police and Johannesburg Metro Police Department presence, president of the Abahambe National Civic Organisation Thabo Ngayo said the aim was to handover a memorandum which spoke to the laws that were being contravened by local companies. “The locals here are contravening the employment act that guides them and prompts them to only hire foreign nationals on a rare skills job.

Ngayo said they would be in communication with companies in Norwood and would return if their demands were not met.

The protest will be continuing to Grant Avenue and end at Norwood Police Station.
