Rotary Club of Johannesburg New Dawn welcomes new president
Judy Symons steps in as the new president of the Rotary Club of Johannesburg New Dawn at an induction ceremony held in her honour.
Rotary Club of Johannesburg New Dawn hosted an induction ceremony to officially welcome Judy Symons as its new president on July 15.
Held at Parkview Golf Club, Symons was formally inducted at a handover ceremony where former president Jankees Sligcher passed the reins over.

Before the induction, club members were allowed to say a few words about Symons, expressing kind words and their confidence in her to lead the club.
Symons aims to create an environment where members actively involve themselves in the various activities of the club.
She said that the role comes with a mixture of emotions. “It is quite intimidating, and I do feel a little overwhelmed, but I do believe in Rotary, and I know that it is one of the world’s organisations worth serving. So, I do feel quite proud as well,” she added.

Symons mentioned that participation in the different activities will help members get the full Rotary experience.
“I hope to involve all our club members actively so that they find the experience of being a Rotarian rewarding and meaningful and have a feel-good approach as well.”
She said projects centred around children’s homes, schools, Mandela Day initiatives and other fundraising events are to be expected.
Sligcher said he was delighted to hand over the role. “It has always been a pleasure to come back and help out a club that was needing a little bit more glue to get cohesive membership again,” he said.
“The biggest priority is education. We need to look after our less privileged children in this area,” he said, adding that he would continue to support the club.
