Inquisitive minds and eager Grade 3 Saxonwold Primary School learners filled the hall on August 14, for a talk on the harmful side effects of bullying.

Youth activist and Jozi Youth Empire founder Mapula Mojela said her visit to the school was centred around her anti-bullying campaign. “I spoke to Grade 3s about what bullying is, and the harms it causes later on in one’s life.”

Mojela also touched on the importance of mental health, which is one of the factors affected when one is bullied.

Saxonwold Primary School student teacher Mphoentle Gill reached out to the youth activist as part of her practicals.

“Part of my practicals includes a service-learning module, which entails creating awareness on anti-bullying. That is why I reached out to Mapula, who focuses on the youth and engaged them with such topics.”

The talk saw the youth activist engaging with learners over questions about bullying, what they would do in instances of being bullied, and the importance of not bullying one another.

Jozi Youth Empire offers programmes including dancing, music, modelling, drama, and public speaking. Classes are held every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 15:30–17:30.
