To discuss the future of Corlett Drive, the Corlett Drive Improvement Precinct (CDIP) held a meeting on August 5 at the Marriott Hotel in Melrose Arch.

The agenda focused on key milestones, improving safety, cleanliness, and the overall business environment in the community.

Neighbouring stakeholders, businesses, residents, and representatives from the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) attended in strong numbers.

The CDIP is a registered non–profit company run entirely by community volunteers, including local business owners, property managers, and residents who share a belief that Corlett Drive can be better.

Chairing the meeting, Mark Pencharz explained that the work conducted by the NPO includes patrolling, cleaning up, maintaining verges, and clearing pavement litter.

Pencharz encouraged more people to be part of the CDIP: “We invite you to join us on weekend gazebo and table recruitments. Salespeople in the right place beat a passive stand every time. People are urged to visit the NPO’s website to sign up, become a member, and stay informed.”

He added that funds contributed by members go towards addressing issues such as:

• Dumping along verge paths
• Council trench work that damaged paving
• Irrigation and daily crews clearing dumped trash under the Corlett Drive bridge.

Progress so far includes four new members who signed up via the website this month alone, generating automatic sign–up alerts. In addition, the JRA has begun pavement repair work in the precinct this week.

The chairman noted that for governance roles and order within the NPO, there is currently a call for committee volunteers.

This will trigger a formal member vote to follow. The next steps include growing membership, practical maintenance and beautification, and holding a formal member vote to confirm the board.
