Tyrone Avenue in Parkview was bustling with community members who visited different restaurants and stands participating in the Heritage Festival on September 19.

Families and friends filled the street, enjoying the different foods and activities that were offered, including face painting, wine tasting, book reading, and jumping castles, while celebrating the stories and community that make Parkview exceptional.

Parkview Residents’ Association executive member Peter Delmar said the festival was born six years ago. “I had an idea, which was born from Parkview being filled with interesting authors, academics, and journalists, and wanted to host an event for those people only to do panel discussions, but the Residents’ Association insisted on making the event huge,” he said.

Delmar added that the money raised would go towards the Parkview Library to renovate the building, kitchen, and courtyard.

Parktown High School for Girls learner and community service member Jaime Reddy said being part of the event was fun. “Community service is an extra-mural offered at school which includes helping in communities and events, hence we’re here to help raise funds for the library. The day has been a success. I’ve had my face painted and interacted with the dog shelters that are here.”

The day’s programme included reading in the library, a drama workshop, pop-up theatre, a disco and dance-off, and a blood drive.
