Letter to the editor: Eighth Street’s muddy problem

Concerned resident writes:

Barrow Construction commenced work at a commercial construction site in December.

They are removing soil by trucks which travel along Eighth Street towards the junction with Eighth Avenue [in Saxonwold].

Since the commencement of this operation, only a minimal effort has been made to keep Eighth Street clear of the mud being deposited by the trucks and run-off. At best, one man with a hosepipe with feeble water pressure.

All this does is move the mud further along the road as the drainage direction is towards Eighth Avenue.

Due to the recent heavy rains, the accumulation of mud has become a traffic hazard. In addition, it is blocking the storm drains.

It is a disgrace that a large construction company has no regard for the residents of Eighth Street, nor its users.

It also appears that the Municipality has no control over construction companies and allows these types of situations to happen.
