For what seems like years since Modderfontein Road was upgraded, I have been looking with concern at the drain at the robot at the turnoff to Curie Road into Rembrandt Park/Lombardy East. This drain has been collecting pine needles and other rubbish and is now totally obscured.

Two Sundays ago, we returned from Pretoria in a terrible storm. The water was unable to go down the drain and continued on its way towards the Edenvale Hospital.

I remember many years ago when the entrance sentry box at the hospital looked like a lighthouse at sea during a very bad storm. I thought when I first saw the improvement to the road that that would not happen now. Well, if a drain is never cleaned, it is not a drain. So why build it?
