LETTER: Residents scared to venture out

We have a live-in facility for psychiatric patients licensed in terms of the Mental Health Act at the corner of Atholl and Campbell streets in Waverley.

. On this corner there is a municipal bus stop.

Unfortunately, this is now being turned into a taxi rank, wash bay as well as a workshop. I wrote to the Metrobus company and was informed that they could not take any action and I must refer the matter to Metro police, which I did.

Our approach in the treatment of our patients is to create an environment as close to home as possible. They are free to go to Balfour Park shopping centre to have something to eat or do personal shopping.

One of our woman patients was assaulted and mugged at the entrance of the centre. Some of our other women residents have been harassed by taxi drivers with the result that they are scared to leave our premises.

It will be appreciated if you could supply me with the details of the ward councillor so that I can take this up with the councillor.
