LETTER: Every light off goes a long way

I am absolutely sick to death of pathetic Eskom that implements load shedding and tells us how we need to be more conservative when it comes to the usage of electricity - turn off geysers, turn off pool pumps, turn off lights!

Just by taking a drive to drop my daughter at playschool from Sandringham to Orange Grove, almost every street light is on.

I think it is now time that we give them a bit of advice and tell them to switch off the street lights when the sun is blazing! Why must I have a half-cooked meal at 6pm when the streetlights have been burning all day? It makes no sense to me and it is really starting to infuriate me.

Just like Joburg Roads Agency has an app for people to log complaints, I really think we need to find a way to report municipal electricity wastage and ensure something gets done about it. I have called 011 375 5555 numerous times to report this, but yet nothing gets done about it.

I know it is probably minimal electricity usage compared to what our country needs, but I think every light off goes a long way.
