Bullring to host T20 double-header

JOBURG – Lions young chargers target silverware in all three formats this season.

The Bidvest Wanderers Cricket stadium is set to host a Ram Slam T20 double-header on 12 November.

The day will see the home side, bizhub Highveld Lions taking on the Multiply Titans, and Cape Cobras will lock horns with the VKB Knights.

Lions opening batsman, Rassie van der Dussen encouraged fans to get their tickets on time ahead of the T20 extravaganza at the Bullring. “We are playing at home and it will be a massive clash with the Titans. We hope that fans get their tickets for the T20 double-header soonest as this will give them a chance to win the matrix VIP experience.

“With two matches taking place on the day, fans can be sure that they will have the best cricket entertainmentDONE! available. It’s going to be an amazing day out for everyone,” he said.

Having struggled in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge last season, the Lions have made notable signings this season having secured the signature of talented wicket-keeper and batsman Mangaliso Mosehle, opening batsman Reeza Hendricks and bowler Aya Myoli.

Another new signing that has Lions coach Geofrey Toyana buzzing is that of South African U19 all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, a matric pupil at St Stithians College.

Mulder recently made his debut for the franchise in the opening round Sunfoil Series encounter against the Cape Cobras at the Wanderers on 5 October, where he finished with bowling figures of 7/64.

Proteas Test opener Stephen Cook will once again lead the Lions in the 2016/2017 season, with Dominic Hendricks deputising the senior statesman.

Despite losing a host of players to national duty, the likes of Nono Pongolo, Carmi le Roux and Matt McGillivray stepped up when it counted most last season.

Under the guidance of Toyana, the Lions have gone from strength to strength. They have produced a host of national players including Kagiso Rabada, Quinton de Kock, Chris Morris, Temba Bavuma, Aaron Phangiso, Eddie Leie, Hardus Viljoen, Stephen Cook and Dwaine Pretorius.
