YC Barcelona win against Goal Diggers

Local soccer teams have a blast in the annual Spring League at Discovery Soccer Park.

Local soccer teams battled it out at Wanderers Club’s Discovery Soccer Park on October 5 in the Spring League.

Discovery Park’s head of operations, Selby Mogale, said that the annual junior tournament was played by children aged 6.

“The teams are made up of children from different schools and soccer academies; some of the teams are a bunch of friends who make a team.”

Mogale added that some team members came from Tembisa, Alexandra and Johannesburg.

U9 YC Barcelona won 2-1 against a team made up of Wanderers Club players, named U9 Goal Diggers.

The Goal Diggers coach, Thanyani Mashamba, said although losses weren’t fun, he was proud of his team’s efforts.

“I saw a lot of character within the boys; they continued playing and wanted to get an equaliser.”
The YC Barcelona coach was unavailable for comment on his team’s performance.
