Supporting breast cancer awareness

ILLOVO - A Cheque of R375 000 was handed over to breast cancer awareness charity PinkDrive at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium in Illovo.

This was after the one-day cricket international between the Proteas and India.

The Pink Day campaign was another successful partnership between Cricket South Africa, the Gauteng Cricket Board, Momentum, Bidvest and South African Breweries.

The Proteas who played in pink, ran up a steady run rate to bring the match donation tally to R207 200 from sixes, fours and their winning run rate. Although not victorious on the day, India’s sixes and run rate contributed too. From runs and hits, Bidvest donated R120 000, Momentum R30 000 and Castle Lager R57 200. Momentum had promised R100 000 for any direct hit on the inflatable ‘M’ on the boundary, but neither team rose to the challenge. Momentum was happy to donate the full amount anyway, bringing its donation total to R130 000 for PinkDrive.

The sponsors thanked the fans and supporters who contributed on Pink Day. Close to R43 000 was raised by fans who bought pink memorabilia at the match, donated at the stadium or via the PinkDrive SMS number.
