Festival of learning in Rosebank
ROSEBANK – It's all about sharing inspirational stories and ideas that contribute to transformation in communities, families and workplaces.
Inspiring transformation is the theme for the annual Psychology Festival of Learning, which will be hosted by The South African College of Applied Psychology (Sacap) at their Johannesburg campus on 19 and 20 May.
Sacap is mobilised by a vision of an empowered, caring society of integrated individuals and believes that in order to address the harsh realities that exist within South Africa, an inspired workforce of counsellors, psychologists, coaches and leaders need to be trained.
Inspiring transformation is about all the success stories and ideas that have inspired and are still inspiring transformation in communities, families and workplaces.
“A process of defined and radical change is how some define ‘transformation’. Through the Festival of Learning, we don’t just want to share stories about transformation, we want to inspire South Africans to identify where transformation and change are needed and to be part of the transformation process,” said Lance Katz, Sacap’s CEO.
With over 50 guest speakers, the Festival offers a wide range of one-hour talks. Talk topics for the Johannesburg event include, Money does not make the world go round. Relationships do by Paula Quinsee; Lessons from a boxing gym in Hillbrow by Luke Lamprecht; Dislocation Theory – A successor to the official view of addiction; and Transformation through embodying resilience, both by Wendy Ward.
After successfully introducing a short talk programme in 2015, the festival will once again open with a short talk evening programme. The evening will each feature eight short talks including topics such as Recovery – the 60/40 principle by John Smith; Transformation of higher education through social entrepreneurship by Lance Katz; Fast-paced technology in modern day relations by Karen Moross; and The learning brain by Dr Diana Soares De Sousa.
Johannesburg programme:
Thursday, 19 May: Short-talk programme from 5pm till 8.30pm. Tickets cost R200
Friday, 20 May: Full-day programme from 9am till 5pm and tickets will cost R200
Student tickets for both events are R80.
