Prize Giving Awards for masters’ soccer teams

The winners in both streams received a big trophy and gold medals for their effort while the third and fourth positions received, silver and bronze medals.

SEBOKENG.- The Sedibeng Masters Football Association hosted prize-giving awards for the 2023/2024 season at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex in Zone 14, Sebokeng over the weekend.

Founder members of the association including the former presidents attended this prize-giving ceremony.

Ace Rantoa who is one of the founder members of the master league gave a brief background which led to the formation of this successful masters’ league in Gauteng. He told the teams and the guests that when they started this league, little did they know that one day it would be one of the biggest master leagues in Gauteng.

To make it interesting, the league has attracted more teams compared to when it was started with more than 30 masters’ teams participating in the league in this past season. The league was divided into streams, Stream A and B with the four teams from Stream B promoted to Stream A.

The teams that have been promoted to Stream A are Hlanganani Masters, Thabiso Masters, Marikana Masters, Leleme Masters, and SV Mami Masters.

Hlanganani Masters are the Stream B Champions.

Qwebezela Masters are Stream A-League champions with St Rumours finishing as the runner-up and Vivian Masters finishing third place. The winners in both streams received a big trophy and gold medals for their effort while the third and fourth positions received, silver and bronze medals.

Trompie Pitso who is responsible for communication said they had to divide the league into two streams because of the overwhelming number of the teams. Pitso said that Stream B is the feeder to Stream A while the four teams that finished at the bottom of Stream A got relegated.

“Look, as much as we have two streams, we treat them the same and the aim is also to make this league interesting. We also know masters’ football is all about fun not necessarily about winning or results. We treat both streams equally as much as there are Stream A and B,” said Pitso.
