Sasolburg rapist handed 20 years in prison

It is alleged that the 47-year-old tenant raped the 10-year-old child while in the toilet and let her go.

SASOLBURG – A 47-year-old man was sentenced by the Sasolburg Regional Court after he raped a 10-year-old girl.

In a statement on Thursday, May 23, police spokesperson Captain Loraine Earle said: “On 30 October 2021 the 10-year-old victim was playing outside in the yard at Sasolburg when the 47-year-old tenant summoned her to the toilet.”

It is alleged that the 47-year-old tenant raped the 10-year-old child while in the toilet and let her go. The child informed her sister, who took her to the Sasolburg Police Station, where a case of rape was opened for further investigation.

Detective Sergeant Constance Xola of the Zamdela Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit received the docket, and the 47-year-old tenant Jonas Mokoena was arrested and has been in custody since.

With the guidance of the NPA Prosecutor, Mr Tsolo, the suspect was sentenced to 20 years of direct imprisonment by the Sasolburg Regional Court.
