Spark of hope for destitute family

The family of four adults and two children are currently living in a one-roomed shack and recently attended the official sod-turning ceremony for their new home.

It was a day of hope for the Mbhele family of ward 23 in Bhobhoyi recently as their dream of owning a new home came a step closer to becoming a reality, thanks to the Maxwell Mbili Education and Empowerment Trust, in partnership with Sgananda Media and the Younus Moosa Family Trust.

The family of four adults and two children who are currently living in a one-roomed shack recently attended the official sod-turning ceremony for their new home.

The three organisations will work hand in hand with businesses to build the house, with the Younus Moosa Family Trust also pledging R 1000 a month towards groceries for the family.

The dilapidated one roomed shack the Mbhele family calls home.

Golden Rock Architecture and Design has designed the new home while Aziam UPVC and Aluminium Architecture Systems will donate aluminium window frames and doors.

The appointed contractor is Pharaohs Construction.

According to Mr Mbili, the family’s problems were compounded by the fact that Khilimbili Mbhele did not receive an old-age pension as he had lost his identity document.

“We are helping the family to obtain identity documents and are liaising with the Department of Home Affairs.”

He said that the build had been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances, but added it was hoped the family could now take possession by the end of June.

The director of Sgananda Media, Nkosi Shezi urged all businesses and organisations to join hands and donate towards this project.

Ward 23 councillor Bheka Cele thanked everyone for their support.

“I thank Mr Mbili and Mayor Cynthia Mqwebu for coordinating the donation of the municipal land, and the private sector for coming on board as the government can’t do everything alone,” he said.
