I write this letter with much concern at the recent spike in stealing of electricity cables in the areas of Anerley, Sunwich Port and Melville.
This act results in unplanned power outages which often last for days on end. As recently as the past week (April 29) residents of Melville experienced power outages due to electrical cables being stolen.
It is a cause for concern because there are no reports of the culprits ever being caught.
Instead, it is becoming a cycle whereby cables get stolen we go without power then Eskom replaces the cables and repairs any damage to a transformer.
A few weeks later the cycle continues. I am hereby pleading to security companies, Southport Saps, community policing forums and members of the community to collaborate in trying to curb this issue.
The inconvenience of not having electricity for 72 hours on end affects everyone in the area and therefore a solution needs to be sought sooner rather than later.
