Eish, Stage 2 load-shedding announced

Eskom made the announcement after failure of some power generating units.

ESKOM has announced that it will implement Stage 2 load-shedding during evening peak periods from today (May 13) at 16:00 until 22:00 on May 15, in order to manage limited generation capacity.

In a statement, Eskom said this decision follows the delayed return of generation units as well as an additional generation loss due to unplanned breakdowns and delays. These delays, coupled with an unplanned capacity loss, have exceeded 13,000 megawatts (MW).

Eskom’s group chief executive, Dan Marokane, apologised for the inconvenience caused by the load-shedding.

“The delays in returning units are being addressed with urgency by senior leadership. Eskom will continue to monitor the system closely and provide updates as conditions evolve,” said Marokane.

He added that Eskom continues to expand capacity as three major projects are on track to bring an additional 2 500MW onto the grid in the near future.
