DA unveils another e-toll billboard
The first billboard caused a stir among the African National Congress (ANC) camp, now the second one comes two weeks before the implementation of e-tolls as The Democratic Alliance (DA) continues to oppose e-tolling.
GOSFORTH PARK – A group of loyal DA supporters greeted Gauteng Premier Candidate Mmusi Maimane in song as they braved the cooler weather in Germiston on Thursday morning, November 21. The message from Maimane was clear, “If we were to ask Gauteng motorists to vote against e-tolling they would do so without thinking twice.”
After owning up to the first billboard which read, “E-tolls proudly brought to you by the ANC,” the DA has now unveiled a new billboard reading, “A vote for the DA is vote against tolls.”
Speaking to members of the media, Maimane said, “We need to understand that we are not saying we are against infrastructure, we are merely saying the people of Gauteng should not have to pay twice for the roads they are already paying for.”
According to Maimane, the DA is taking the matter to court they are confident they have a strong case. He said, “They reaction of SANRAL also suggests they know we have a strong case.”
After announcing that e-toll will be launched December 3, South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) has welcomed the announcement and denied claims that they ignored public input.
Maimane said, “Our case will only be heard in court as soon as we know that all parties involved are available for a date, either in December or early in the New Year.”
