Southern drummer set for stardom
He has been privileged to meet international drummer Steve Ferrone, who has played for the likes of Michael Jackson, George Benson.
JOHANNESBURG – Rahil Singh (5) was only a year and six months old when he started playing drums, and today he is making a name for himself, opening shows and meeting internationally known drummers.
Rahil had his debut drum solo performance in December 2012 at the Gandhi Hall in Lenasia, Johannesburg for the Kashivta Showcase concert. He has since performed and opened numerous shows at popular places in South Africa.
He is a fouth generation musician, as he comes from a family who has a strong musical background. His father, Sacheen Singh, has been playing drums since he was seven.
He started attending the Georg Voros Rock School of drumming since July 2012 and is currently being tutored by Graeme Swael, a senior student.
In person he comes across as a very shy and reserved child, but when on stage or playing drums he is extremely confident, as he is passionate about drumming and music.
“Rahill is able to watch a video on TV or listen to a song on the radio and pick up the beat very quickly. He has an excellent ear for music and he is always tapping a beat wherever he is. He is quite versatile as well, being able to play different genres of music with ease and the style of music is no a barrier,” said his mother Alesha Signh.
Rahil recently played for the first time as part of a band, and played along to Indian music for a wedding function.
He has been privileged to meet international drummer Steve Ferrone, who has played for the likes of Michael Jackson, George Benson. He also met Justin Bieber’s drummer, Malvern Baldwin, and keyboard player Wizard.
