Mandela Day will long be remembered

Men, women and children all came to offer their 67 minutes, but lasted for hours and more.

Residents of Reuven Complex Old Age Home will not easily forget the lavish manner in which they were spoiled and pampered.

It was done by various local businesses, religious organisations, schools and private participants, who came out in their numbers to honour the memory of one of our greatest leaders, the late Nelson Mandela, whose only wish was that all races should work together to make South Africa a place where we can all live in peace and harmony, and to make this world a better place for the less fortunate through unselfish service.

Men, women and children all came to offer their 67 minutes, but lasted for hours and more. The morning started with distributing sweets and fruit parcels by Danmar, followed by Pick n Pay Southdale serving soup and rolls and chocolates. Rina Pretorius sang Gospel songs and the Mpili Royal Nursing Academy sang and danced. Tea and cake came from SGS and Dis-Chem distributed gift parcels. Protea Hotel also gave out towels and crockery.

The afternoon saw Sue Lubbe and Friends serving lunch in grand style, while Sonet and her DJ Crew provided music that kept the elderly singing and dancing. Aneesa and friends gave out key-rings and LewenSentrum distributed gift parcels. The following day, Rhoo and her group served breyani lunch.

Mrs Caroline Ngoasheng, chairperson of the Reuven committee, expressed her heartfelt thanks and appreciation to everyone who have so kindly and lovingly offered their services to the elderly. She said the atmosphere of love and expressions of joy from the elderly, it was indeed a joyous occasion and a great inspiration to them, God bless you all abundantly.
