Bassonia Spar manager robbed
Victim still traumatised by sudden robbery by armed suspects at Comaro View Shopping Centre.
BASSONIA – The Assistant Manager at Bassonia Spar was caught off guard and robbed of an undisclosed amount of money at 09:15 on October 6.
It was confirmed by Spar Management that the assistant manager, Mr Sleeking, was robbed by four armed suspects of the bag of cash in the parking lot as he walked to his vehicle.
Parking attendant Daddy Mumba and others saw three suspects attack the victim, grabbing the bag and violently assaulting him. Then the suspects sped off in a white Ford Ranger.
One of the men at the scene of the robbery said he noticed the white Ford Ranger earlier making rounds inside and outside of the shopping complex.
Security officers Patrick Ndlovu and Steven Thobejane, who were surveying Comaro View shopping complex near the Nedbank ATM, said they heard an confrontation between the victim and suspects.
That was when they hurried to the aid of the victim who had just been robbed. When they got to the victim, the suspects were jumping into the getaway vehicle. Security officer Patrick Ndlovu returned to his vehicle and chased after the armed suspects.
According to Ndlovu, the suspects escaped from the shopping complex, heading to the Soweto highway. Fortunately, Ndlovu managed to get the suspects getaway vehicle’s registration number.
The Mondeor Police arrived at the scene around 10:00 after they were notified of the robbery incident.
The Communications Officer of Mondeor Police, Constable Sibongile Mnguni, gave a statement about the incident: “There was an armed robbery at Comaro View on Comaro Road and Soetdoring Road in Bassonia at 09:15. Mr Sleeking left the Spar with a co-worker to deposit money at The Glen Shopping Mall. As soon as they reached their vehicle, a Ford Ranger registration WHL 255 GP drove in front of their vehicle, blocking them. Mr Sleeking immediately threw the bag to the ground and was slapped across the face by a suspect,” read the statement. The amount of money taken is yet to be revealed.
Mr Sleeking escaped unharmed, but he and his wife were said to be traumatised.
