Driver runs out of road in Glenvista and lands in stream

"I never saw the Stop Street sign," said the man who crashed his car into the stream.

GLENVISTA – A driver who was travelling down Comaro Street,  Glenvista in the early hours of Saturday morning, October 11, said he didn’t see the Stop Street sign or markings on the road before crashing through the chevrons and landing up in the stream about 60 metres away.

The Comaro CHRONICLE reporter asked him if he’d been drinking when he crashed the car but he declined to comment.

This isn’t the first time vehicles have overrun the end of Comaro Street and landed in the veld but this is the first time a vehicle has travelled such a distance before ending up in the stream.

Trevor Hulleman and his wife were walking their dog when the saw the vehicle in the stream.

The driver said someone had seen the accident and had assisted him out of his vehicle and taken him to hospital for a check-up.

“I came back here a while ago and I’m waiting for my vehicle to be lifted from the stream by a pick-up truck,” he said.

According to other reports the silver Mazda is owned by his aunt.

Locals who heard about the accident and those who were walking their dogs, stopped to see the vehicle in the stream. “I hope he’ll take responsibility for this and have the vehicle removed. It will already be leaking oil into the stream,” said Glenvista resident, Trevor Hulleman.

Later in the morning a truck was on the scene with a flat top and the car was eventually removed and taken away.
