Holiday safety talk at Domestic Watch
The Domestic Watch meeting which was held on Tuesday November 11 at Sasol Garage Columbine Avenue, Suideroord was attended by about 25 domestic workers from the area.
SUIDEROORD – Michelle Pelser, organiser (Mondeor CPF) and Martin Barber (SOS) spoke to the domestic workers about the safety aspects of going home for the festive season and using public transport.
“If you board a taxi and the driver goes too fast, ask him to slow down. Don’t just sit there and say nothing. If everyone who is travelling in the taxi says something the chances of him driving carefully will be more likely,” said Barber.
It was advised by Barber that domestic workers rather pay a little more taxi fare for their journey home and use a reliable taxi service. “Don’t always go for the cheapest taxi fare. Choose your transport wisely and arrive home alive,” he added.
This was the last meeting for the year and next month will be the Christmas party for the domestics who attend Domestic Watch.
