Stop dumping in your area

ILLEGAL dumping has become an astronomical problem for both the municipality and communities.

Despite several calls by councillors and the authorities illegal dumping is still a problem that is hard to control or to stop purely because residents from the same communities allow illegal dumping on open areas around their suburbs.

A community that has become tired of this phenomenon is the Alveda Park Extension Three residents in Oak Street who mobilised their fellow residents and cleaned up the area and the surroundings.

The illegal dumping culprits appear to be the residents who are building or landscaping and by all indications do not understand the bylaws of controlling building rubble. They also need to establish if the contractor they employed to do the alterations is actually disposing of the excess building rubble legally. Residents are supposed to hire a skip bin to dispose of building rubble and to apply for a hoarding license to store building rubble and material on the pavement.

It is always extremely disappointing that some residents blatantly ignore what is morally correct and become so self-righteous that they have no consideration for their fellow community members and break all ethics out of their own selfishness.

We, again implore on our communities to please not dump rubbish on the corners of our street, in our parks or our open spaces, as you directly contribute to an unnecessary expense that could have been used for delivering a better service somewhere else.
