A Christmas tale
Women of Worth (WOW) members met at Greenfields Restaurant in Alberton for their November meeting.
ALBERTON – Each member spoke about their Christmas’s past and how they spent them. For some they said it was a special family time to cherish, whereas others shared how they had spent their Christmas holiday overseas or in South Africa at the coast. What came out of the “tales” is how different it was and is for each member.
“It’s wonderful if you have a big family to spend Christmas with but some people don’t and I think it can be a lonely time. Remember those who are alone and try and include them in your festivities, even if only for one day of the holidays.”
“When I was a little girl we used to go to my granny’s in Port Elizabeth and I remember there was always a huge watermelon on the Christmas table. After I was married, my husband’s family would all meet as his parents’ home for Christmas. They lived on a plot and it was a huge affair, and lots of fun. Our children and grandchildren live overseas now, so it’s just the two of us for Christmas, just another day. We miss our family enormously but we relax and actually really enjoy ourselves,” said one of the members.
