Paying it forward on Mandela Day

School children will be bringing their old soccer boots and tekkies for the soccer and netball teams at the Jackson Squatter Camp.

DOPPIO Zero at the Mall of the South will be partnering with Rene Parker from the Lerato Educational Centre in Eikenhof as well as St Declan’s and Grace Trinity Schools this Mandela Day.

According to marketing coordinator at Doppio Zero Tarryn Leigh Nash, school children will be bringing their old soccer boots and tekkies for the soccer and netball teams at the Jackson Squatter Camp. Collection of the items will begin on July 18 (Mandela Day).

The organisations involved will then deliver these boots and tekkies to as well as provide a meal for the children and play a few games of soccer and netball with the underprivileged children on August 5. This will allow enough time to collect as many boots and tekkies as possible.

A few candidates from St Declan’s and Grace Trinity as well as volunteers from the restaurant will be joining the outreach team to play the games with the children and help distribute the food.

“The Mall of the South restaurant is specifically partnering with a local underprivileged school in the community as well as the two schools in Rietvlei to collect soccer boots and tekkies for the local soccer boys and netball girls at Lerato Centre and will spend the day playing sports and enjoying time together,” said Nash.
