THE Democratic Alliance (DA) celebrated Human Rights Day on March 21 with its federal leader Mmusi Maimane visiting the Talisman Foundation in The Hill.
The Talisman Foundation is a facility for people that suffer from mental illnesses. Upon arrival at the foundation, Maimane was greeted by the institute’s staff and patients, and interacted with them for a few minutes, and was then taken on a tour of the premises. Following that, Maimane gave a speech to commemorate Human Rights Day and unveiled a plaque that honoured the victims of the Life Esidimeni tragedy.

Clr Michael Crichton of Ward 56 said, “It was an absolute honour to host the DA leader at this top-class facility. I always enjoy coming to this facility as they are always very hospitable and some of their residents are very talented with regards to singing, panting and dancing among other talents. The Talisman Foundation also epitomises what human rights should be about as they know how to treat all people with dignity.”
There was also a number of other high profile DA leaders present at the event such as Gauteng provincial leader John Moodey, the DA’s Shadow MEC for Health Jack Bloom, the DA’s deputy leader for Johannesburg Tsepo Mhlongo, Ward 55 Clr Rashieda Landis, Ward 57 Clr Faeeza Chame and PR Clr Tyrell Meyers.
