Helping families in need with pet care

Sterilisation on animals is important for Ball’s an’ All.

BALLS an’ All (NPO) based in Walkerville is a sterilisation and primary healthcare charity which assists people who can’t afford standard veterinary rates.

The organisation was founded by Ron Horton and Mareli MacFarlane.

Jackson Drift informal settlement is one of the townships that receive services from Balls an’ All. The organisation has permanent clinics placed in townships like Lehea and Savanna.

The organisation has been registered as a PBO (public benefit organisation), meaning that all contributions to the organisation are fully tax deductible.

“We work in conjunction with local vets who give us lower rates and we subsidise the difference between the vet charges and what the pet owners can afford. We are also very active in townships where all veterinary service including sterilisation is provided free of charge,” said Horton.

The funding of the organisation comes mainly from activities such as book sales, quiz evenings and sporting events hosted by the organisation.

“We initially started out as a community-based charity but the demand for our services has grown dramatically as we became more known and now receive regular calls for assistance from places as far as Springs and Sasolburg,” added Horton.

The sterilisation campaign operates on a cross-subsidisation basis whereby those who can afford more than the minimum fee help to subsidise those who can’t afford anything.
