A SOCIAL franchise known as Flourish provides access to mothers-to-be and baby classes.
The main aim is to provide support, celebrate and empower pregnant and new mothers through the first critical 1 000 days of their child’s life.
Members of Flourish are women who have been licenced by the Flourish franchisor to run Flourish visits in their communities.
They are not healthcare workers, but rather community activists, passionate about mothers and children and committed to supporting them.
Lily Wilson and Pretty Moyo are the steering drivers of Flourish in Rosettenville and Bellavista respectively. They want to help pregnant women, especially those pregnant for the first time, in the area by providing classes, motivational talks and ideas on how to stay stress-free while pregnant.
The sessions run weekly over a 10 week period with a group of 10 mothers-to-be. These sessions can be hosted at local schools, community halls and NGO offices around Rosettenville and Bellavista.
Moms are only required to pay R15 per session to assist with transportation of the Flourish ladies and even if you can’t afford the R15 fee you will still get their assistance for free.
“We want the public to know about us so that we can help more pregnant women. This programme has helped many pregnant women dealing with stress and hardships of being pregnant,” said Wilson.
