Mondeor Scouts meeting in the dark

“There has been no luck so far and the reconnection of electricity has been refused.”

SINCE mid-November of last year, the 1st Mondeor Scouts has had to have their weekly meetings in the dark, on a premise that is already unsafe as it does not have fencing.

The property in Royal Park Drive where these meetings take place, shares the property, erf number and main power supply with the tennis court and Mondeor Police Station. To our great despair, this main power supply has been cut off since mid-November, even though we’ve always paid our share of the electricity bill on time.

After many efforts to get help from our council and the City of Joburg so that our electricity can be reconnected, we are still meeting and struggling in the dark. There has been no luck so far and the reconnection of electricity has been refused.

We meet with our older Scouts on Friday evenings, but we also meet with the young Cubs (ages seven to 10) on Thursday evenings. It’s very unsafe for these youngsters to meet here in the dark since there are no fences around our building to protect against criminals. If there were electricity, it would already feel much safer.

With the winter months rapidly approaching, we are especially desperate to have our electricity reconnected before the cold closes in.

We are in desperate need of help. If there is anyone in the community who can help us solve this problem in any way, please contact me on 063 882 2411.

The CHRONICLE approached Ward 54 councillor Sergio dos Santos, as well as Isaac Mangena from City Power, but neither responded before the deadline. Comment will be published as soon as it’s received.
