Clean haircut turned into mayhem after attempted business robbery in Turffontein

An off-duty JMPD official was at a salon having his hair cut. Two unknown suspects entered and one of them allegedly attempted to pass behind the hair-stylist by force.

WHAT meant to be a clean haircut turned into mayhem after two suspects attempted a business robbery in Turffontein on February 27.

An off-duty JMPD official was at a salon having his hair cut. Two unknown suspects entered and one of them allegedly attempted to pass behind the hair-stylist by force. The stylist asked the suspect why he was being so rude. The suspect started using swearing at him.

As the conversation boiled up the suspect instructed the stylist at gunpoint to kneel down while another suspect held the JMPD official at gunpoint as well. The suspects told the JMPD officer to hand over his cellphone and car keys.

The officer drew his firearm and a shoot-out ensued. One suspects was able to run away, but the second was apprehended by the JMPD official.

Booysens SAPS communications officer Lorrain van Emmerik said Booysens SAPS attended the scene.

“In the yard where the one suspect jumped the wall, a firearm was found. A toy gun was also found on the scene.

“While busy at the scene, information was received about a gunshot victim at the hospital. The members along with the JMPD officers went to the hospital where it was established that the victim was indeed the second suspect from the shooting. The suspect was placed under arrest,” said van Emmerik.

Booysens SAPS thanked role players involved in this successful arrest. They would also like to thank the JMPD officer for his quick action and dedication to fight against crime.
