WATCH: Vusi from Glenanda participates in Come Dine With Me South Africa
Today Vusi is the head of controlling and reporting at Schindler Lifts. He is single and takes care of Tshepo, his 12-year-old brother, and Zano, his seven-year-old niece.
VUSI Ndlovu, a resident of Glenanda, was a contestant in the fifth season of Come Dine With Me South Africa. He competed against fellow contestants Jana Rau from Alberton, Makho Manyoni from Soweto and Nontsi Jiyane from Suideroord.
The episode in which Vusi was featured aired on May 13 on BBC Brit (DStv channel 120). Jiyane was crowned as “host with the most” and walked away with the grand prize of R10 000.
Vusi, originally from Soweto, comes from a very poor background.
“Sometimes we really didn’t have enough ingredients to make a meal, but my mom would just put things together and create something amazing. I took an interest in cooking from her.”

He has always loved cooking.
“I’ve always said if I wasn’t in finance, I’d want a career in the food industry.”
Vusi hosted the three other contestants in his house, a relaxed environment full of vibrant colours, arts and crafts. When asked if he organised any entertainment, he laughed and said, “I was the entertainment! The evening was filled with chatter and laughter.”
Guests were welcomed with bubbly, followed by a mouth-watering three-course meal.

Although Vusi was not crowned the “host with the most”, he still relished the overall experience.
“I love hosting and I love meeting new people.”
We followed up with Vusi after the episode was aired and asked him a few questions.
How do you feel about Nontsi winning?
“I am very happy for her. She was a gracious host and served us delicious food. I would have loved to win, of course, but I am happy to have come second to a worthy contestant.”
Advice for future contestants?
“Have fun. Enjoy the experience, the journey and the crew. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience (though I hope I get another chance to cook on TV again), so make the most of it.”
If there were a next time, what would you do differently?
“I wouldn’t change anything about my experience on the show. I enjoyed every moment. I cooked and served dishes that best represent me and I hosted the way I would’ve loved to be hosted. I would definitely do everything exactly the same.”
