A truck carrying boxes of meat caught fire on N12 North in Alberton after Voortrekker Road.

The driver of the truck said the fire was caused by wheel bearing.

After the truck caught fire the driver said he pulled it to safety to avoid spreading the fire to nearby motorists.

The City of Ekurhuleni and EMPD rushed to the scene to defuse the fire.

The driver survived without sustaining any injuries.

Motorists are advised to take alternative routes.
