FOR the du Preez family from Mulbarton, the word family also includes their nine pets.
The family of four, consisting Berty (father), Taryn (mother) and two daughters Shannon and Hayleigh, love dogs and cats to such an extent they have a room specifically for their pets.
The family has seven dogs and two cats and they treat all of these pets with the same love and care.
They spend most of their time at Johannesburg Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA) in Booysens for their pets to get checked and get other necessary assessments.
Three of the dogs have been adopted from the JSPCA. The family is known to the JSPCA for loving and caring for all kinds of pets.

Taryn told the COURIER she is the one who is responsible for the family having so many pets.
“Since my childhood, I have loved pets and spending time with them warms my heart. Pets are not like people. They listen and they are stress-free. They keep me busy and I enjoy their company,” said Taryn.
During the week, the family takes the dogs and cats for walks and spend quality time with them in nearby parks.
“Showing them love is very important because if they are not happy they won’t be good company. I thank God I have a family which adores pets the way I do,” added Taryn.
Taryn said they used to have 11 dogs and all of those dogs were treated the same.
The names of the dogs are Trouble, Baby, Aziwe, Molly-Mae, Pepsi, Wiener and Bagheera; the two cats are Tabitha and Pata-Paws.
“We adopt dogs because most of the dogs at JSPCA kennel have suffered a lot and we are here to show them love.
“If we had the strength we could go for many more dogs and cats because we have lots of love and care to give,” added Taryn.
