10 years of overflowing sewage and still no solution

After 10 years of complaining to Joburg Water and local councillors, residents of Winchester Hills still have not received a resolution to this problem.

RESIDENTS of Winchester Hills have been complaining about an overflowing sewerage manhole on their pavement for the past 10 years.

They have raised it with Joburg Water countless times, each time proving to be an exercise in futility.

Ward 54 councillor Stuart Marais and constituency head Manny de Frietas have also been approached, but the couple have not yet received a response.

Every time it rains the rainwater gets into the sewerage system, and because the pipes cannot handle the volume of water the overflow is caused.

Sewage spilling out of the manhole after a rainstorm.

The couple had to deal with the horrific smell and say that it overflows into the stream that runs past their house as well. On some days the smell is so bad that they barely go outside.

Marais has been approached for comment, but at the time of print no comment had been received.
