Councillor lists top priorities

Ward 23 councillor Sarah Wissler wishes to share her top priorities for 2021 with the community.

She told the CHRONICLE her immediate priority is to work closely with the local hospital (Netcare Mulbarton Hospital) and clinic, health-care professionals and community volunteers to mitigate the risk posed by the rising number of Covid-19 infections.
She said that as a public servant, it is her main responsibility to address the needs of the residents of Ward 23.
Wissler also explained her goals for this year as uncomplicated.
She aims to:
• Actively engage with residents through one-on-one meetings, virtual town halls and community forums, especially new residents in the ward, to listen and understand what they would prefer that she prioritises in terms of service delivery.
• Be an active voice for residents in the City of Joburg and hold the various departments accountable where needed.
“This one is a non-negotiable,” she said.
• Connect residents, community forums and businesses to each other to further strengthen community ties, push growth of local businesses and job creation within the ward.

• Continue to support and raise the profile of NGOs, charities and the local residents’ association.
“We are at our best when we take care of each other,” she added.
• Encourage active participation in local government elections.
“We get what we vote for,” Wissler concluded.
