Raging fire destroyed Welfare Park six shacks

Family in dire need of help after fire gutted their home.

Nine people were left homeless when a fire destroyed their shacks in the early hours of June 16 at 21 Steelpoort Street, Welfare Park.

Aida Shivhambu said the cause of the fire is not known.

“This happened at midnight. The fire destroyed six shacks and most of the belongings were burnt, including IDs.

“We need to rebuild our homes. We are pleading with the Southerners to help us with corrugated iron, food, clothes, paint and windows. We need clothes, mainly for adult males size 32 to 38,” explained Shivhambu.

She also mentioned they need social workers to help them get new IDs and birth certificates for the young ones.

“We need social workers to help us with affidavits so that we can go to home affairs because we tried the police station however we weren’t helped,” she said.
